venice BIENNALE art trip 2011
(program filled)From the 3rd to the 14th October 2011 LaTrobe College of Art and Design will be conducting an art trip to the 54th Venice Biennale for students and interested people.
The hosts will be Jane Cocks (Head of Art) and Drawing tutor Honor Bradbeer.
The Biennale is considered the most important and prestigious event on the international contemporary arts calendar, and is the oldest and largest established biennale in the world and was first held in 1895. The Venice Biennale is far more than a major exhibition held every two years. It is a vast empire of art, with exhibitions large and small, national and international, spread all over town and out into the lagoon. Each artist represented in the exhibition is put forward to represent their country of origin. The exhibition shows many of the best artists active in the world today. In 2011 some of the selected artists are Christian Boltanski, Ólafur Ólafsson and Mike Nelson.
As well as extensively exploring the biennale the trip will include visits to The Peggy Guggenheim Museum, The Accademia Gallery, Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana.
The trip will include practical art making sessions, drawing classes, workshops, projects and production of a visual diary.
The program cost is $2500. Travel and accommodation is separate. It is worth noting that there are very cheap return flights to Venice of $1700 currently on offer.
Expressions of interest are now being taken. If you are interested in joining the trip and would like to receive information and updates please email Jane Cocks at jane@latrobecollege.com.au
